i want to know if any here has imported a sax to australia before?
if so what is the best way to do it. and how if possible do i avoid paying import tax and all the extra costs.
basically i want to know if it will be cheaper to get from the US. so with postage combined is it worth getting a sax from the US?
thanks for any help

Hi Timmoy
If you buying a saxophone online, there is no need custom tax or extra cost

I have Bought from the States (E-bay) and never paid import duty.
Freight is about $A130 though
that plus the exchange rate may make it more of a hassle for a new sax And you might not save much.

There is no problem until the value exceeds AU$1000, including freight. There is no import duty, however there is 10% GST (a rose by any other name, etc) and your horn will be held by customs.
If this is the case, get it freighted for airport pickup (cos you cant get it delivered) with a contact number to call when it arrives. Despite the attempts to tell you that you can't do the paperwork yourself, you can and its not rocket science. Just take the "100 points "with you.
Under a grand, it may still get held by quarantine, but you never know.

use UPSP and say as gift
in this way u never have to pay for extra fee
and the shipping is low
i bought many sax from state
and the postage plus insure about 30 - 45 at most
never have any problem with that
work hard...but work smart

follow davids advice.
I bought my mark VI from the states and customs charged me 10% of the sax and shipping as the purchase was over a grand.
