What's the true difference between these baritones? The VSP I tried out had a keyguard stamped with "Yanagisawa," and "901" was stamped next to the serial number. Looks to me like they're one and the same.

Someone suggested that the VSP was assembled by Leblanc in the USA from Yanagisawa parts. Is this true?

Of course the most visible difference is in the price...the Yani runs about US$800 more than the VSP, and of course the resale value of a VSP will be far less than the 901.

Does anyone know more information?

I believe you've stated the major difference, the price. The Vito Bari seems to me to be exactly the same horn, except for the engraving. Some of the sites like USA horn advertise this horn as Vito VSP/Yanagisawa Baritone. I’ve talked to several repair techs, and several Bari players who are familiar with the horn, and they all said the same thing. It's the same horn. I don’t know if it was assembled by Leblanc or not, probably.
My Vito VSP Bari has the Yani emblem all over the horn.

I picked up mine from a local Music/Pawn shop. They know I'm interested in older vintage saxes and pro models and almost didn't show me this one because it was an "off" brand.

It was missing the low A key guard and had just a couple tiny dents and needed just minor tweaking. At $500, it was a huge bargain and I've compared it side-by-side with my Selmer SA80 bari. The Yani was the hands down winner for me.

The info on the back indicates mine is a 900 model.

with my experience the vito yani holton leblance etc all have that same wierd circle logo with the (<) type thing. so i wouldnt call it the yani logo, but the specs are all the same, mouthpiece is the same, gleblanc.com anounces it as the same horn. my tech guy said that the horns were made identical but hes not sure now with all the crap put out from the manufacturers and all the submanufacturing going on
