Hello
I am new to the world of tenor, playing very briefly. I have played alto for the last 4 years and have a yamaha 62II. I have decided to switch over to tenor for marching band and jazz band. Our school has YTS 23s and the stock mouthpieces. Since im going to be spending a great amount of time on tenor I have decided to upgrade the mouthpiece. I am considering a metal mouthpiece primarily. At most my budget can go up to 150. I want a rich, fat, robust tenor sound much like that of lenny picket. I want a mouthpiece that will carry on the field and is loud enough for everyone in a stadium to hear a tenor solo. Can you guys please give me suggestions on a great mouthpiece.

PS I play an NC5 Rosseau on alto

Pickett is noted to play a metal berg, so see if you can try one of those out. The Link STM is also a very good, robust and fat piece. My favorite metal pieces are a Guy Hawkins 5 and a Bari Gold 6. Good luck with your mpc search!

I recommend staying away from metal. You can get what you want, save some bucks, and it wont freeze to your lip at cold football games.

Consider a Vandoren Jumbo Java T55 and softer reeds like 2.5s. This will feel large compared to your stock tenor mouthpiece. If you have the opportunity, you should try the smaller T35 and T45. If they are a lot more comfortable and you can control the pitch better, go with something like that. If you find the sound too bright, you can drop down to the regular Javas.

A Runyon Custom Spoiler is also a good bang for the buck. So is the Custom Quantum. Perhaps an 8 in the Custom and a 9 in the Quantum. Again, it is good to tryout neighboring sizes for a good fit. A metal Quantum is in your budget, but the Delrin plastic ones (the "Custom") are actually a little brighter/louder.
