Some posts seem to be missing, is there something I have overlooked? :?
Are they moved? I've tried the search function, but it can't find any posts written by me at all, so I guess it's not working...

Anyone?

Maybe the search function only apply to "new" posts
(i.e. after the modification)

Stone,

saxpics moved all the messages a day or two ago, and as far as I know, everything posted on the old board won't be showing up here.

OR

There's an option somewhere (can't remember where at the moment) where you can change which posts to show (new posts only, today's posts only, this week's posts only, etc.) That might be the culprit.

Best,
Chris S

Looks to me like some posts are missing. I made a lengthy post on Working Sax Pros yesterday (4/3/05), and not only is my post gone, the whole thread (Playing With Clueless Musicians) is gone. This is the third time in the last few months I've lost a lengthy post, and it's getting old.

All threads and posts, except for 14 polls were transferred as of 03/28/05 (if I'm remembering correctly; I really don't want to look up the exact date and time). If your thread/post was submitted to the phpBB Forum after that, it didn't get transferred. There was a big global announcement on the Forum Index of the phpBB forum with lots of !!!, colors, and italics -- so please don't say that you weren't warned.

Please note that the forum default is to see only posts from the past month. Yes, I'll change it. No, it won't be immediate. Yes, you can change it for yourself. Go to http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/profile.php?do=editoptions and under "Default Thread Age Cut Off" choose "Show all threads" and then click "Save Changes".

EDIT: Found the thread anyhow. It's copied at http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=21070 -- and, no, I didn't change the font sizes.

Pete a couple of things....
one: when the SOTW finally got back up after about a month off, I noticed that there were more than 200 of my posts missing when I looked at the number of posts made under my name. I don't see that many posts missing from most of the other prolific posters here
two: Since the new board has gone up I have also noticed that as my number of posts increases, naturally the number beside my name does too....but just now I noticed (for the second time in a week) that the number of my posts listed isless that when I previously logged in!

How could this be? :?

That number is essentially indicative of ... nothing in particular.

a) During the last phpBB outage and subsequent rebuild, I ran a number of utilities to kill off bad threads, remove "pruned" posts (posts removed because they were in an area where posts got deleted after a month OR posts that got deleted for whatever reason) and then resynchronize the post count for the user. I lost a hundred or so posts to my name when I did that. When we moved to vBulletin, there are even stronger utilities that do essentially the same thing, so I lost more posts.

(EDIT: trying to be very clear: only the NUMBER changed. In reality, maybe 60 or so threads were actually completely lost.)

This is also aside from the fact that because SQL was so screwed up on Siteground, every time we ran a repair, we lost a couple threads.

b) If you're really concerned about your post count, vBulletin allows me to set it to whatever number I want. Hmmm. "959" is pretty close to "1.2 trillion" ....

(I'm being cute to illustrate a point and I know you're concerned about data loss: the post count number really doesn't seem to be indicative of anything in particular.)

c) Again remember that if you posted on the phpBB forum between 03/28/05 and when I opened the vBulletin Forum, those posts (and subsequent post count) were not transferred.

d) vBulletin does not implement automatic forum pruning, so once everything's set, it's set, unless an Admin deletes it.

Well, I made several posts between 3/27 and 4/2 and none of them made the cut. I didn't see anything warning me not to post anything. It would seem to have been better if posts were inhibited by the system rather than assuming everyone would look for warning messages somewhere on the SOTW homepage. I very rarely even look at that page and just jump right into the forum. I think I will wait a few months before posting again just to make sure this is going to remain in place and work. A lot of people put a lot of thought into some of the posts and for them just to disappear is not cool... :(

It's just words. If they were important, type them again. It's not really that much wear and tear on the wrists, is it?

Saxpic's message (linked above) was a sticky at the top of the forum - with all sorts of icons next to it (road warning sign) to draw your attention. He covered it in a couple of different threads. Short of sending a pm to every registered user...what more should, or could, he have done?? Would inhibiting posts (ie, shutting down the forum) have been more cool? I think having someone do all the work it takes to maintain this site for my edification and enjoyment is pretty darn cool....

A Global Announcement, actually -- it was at the top of EVERY Forum area. The original post is referenced in one of my above posts so you can see what it looked like.

I think this conversation has about run its course. I'm sorry that you feel bad about not having your post(s) and/or thread(s) transferred. Unfortunately, there's not much I can tell you other than to repost.
