Basically a great copy of a mk6, a way underestimated sax, I have an alto & tenor, and the alto is the best sounding "mk6" ive ever tried. Alto is bright & resonant, my tenor is fat & mean.

hi!

I'm playing an elimona alto sax, marked 800 and with serial # 06803915 (that is to say, made in June 1980 - they changed serial numbering in late 1980). There is a raised "Elimona" logo in the bottom of the bell.

I brought it in the begining of '80s. I was not good enough for a Selmer, I though, but, in comparison with a yamaha of that time, the sound of my yana was far far better: more consistent over the range, more compact, brighter but not too wide (...if you undestand my poor english adjectival "skills").

I quited 15 years ago and started again 1 and a half year ago. My target is still getting good enough to buy a Selmer, but the only thing I'm really proud of my playing is the sound I was able to develop on my sax. I took time and long ...very long tones, tons of long tones.

I'm not an expert on saxes and I would like to know more about mine (I descovered only recently this wonderful forum and I saw a post by kiki regarding this sax, but that post is locked).
Is it a pro-model? How can you tell? There others playing it? What do you think?

Thank you.
Andrea

'Elimona' has been, and continues to be, applied to the standard pro model of Yanagisawa as far as I can tell. It doesn't seem to indicate any one particular model, as the Yani range has evolved over time. I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of them as a great horn but the name can mean one of a number of models.

Don't stop there. Be good enough to buy a new Yanagisawa! Why settle for a Selmer?

The Yani is as good , most likely better than most Selmers, 500/800 are vibrant stunners as good as any mk6, just try em side by side.
