Hello, I have a Hamilton 5-peg base, and I need a flute peg for my old Bundy flute, but I don't know which peg to get, the large one or the the small? I've gotten no replies from Hamilton about this, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.
Also, is there any way to tighten the parts of the base? I can spin one leg against the other like a helicopter.
Thanks

You should be fine w/ the large or small... the small was made so people in pits can have quicker changes
And if it's the one I think it is (I worked for the company that actually makes the hamilton stands for a few years) you are out of luck w/ it being loose. What you would have to tighten is the rivot in the center. which isn't going to happen. If it becomes a big problem Hamilton should take it back.
You can balance it by adjusting the rubber feet if that helps you at all,

It is possible to tighten rivets, using say a vice and hammer, or powerful pliers. However but if a rivet is not strong enough to stay tight during typical use of the item, it will almost certainly become loose again. A stronger rivet should have been used.
However any reasonably-equipped workshop - instrument repair technician or otherwise, should be able to replace pretty well any rivet with a bot going into a threaded hole, or a bolt and nut - quite cheaply.

Yes, they should take it back, but they could say that it was abused. Then you could say that any stand will suffer some stresses when used for quick instrument changes in a pit, and should be robust enough to cope.
Such is life!

Thanks, guys! I'll see if I can find someone to tighten it. If not, I may hit up Hamilton.
Thanks!

Also, the Hamilton clarinet peg usually has a straight portion of the shaft which works as a flute peg.

If they are different diameters, I suspect that the larger one requires good vertical alignment of the flute before lowering it onto the stand, but that the stand would hold it securely vertical.
With the slimmer one, it would be easier to quickly mount the flute on the stand - maybe important during quick changes in a pit - but the flute would wobble more on the stand.
During my pit playing I found it quite satisfactory to place the flute on my lap during quick changes, and then on the stand at a later opportunity.
On the other hand, the slimmer stand may possibly be designed for 'odd' instruments, such as Eb flute.
I may be wrong on all counts though.
