I tried both the JDX and SJ facings, and found them too thin for my sax, plus I just didn't care for their feel. Has anyone used either of their classical (R and NC) facings for jazz? I would think they would be darker and richer, but perhaps too much so for any non-classical playing.

You can play jazz on the R or NC facings. There's nothing wrong with a full sound for jazz. You'll probably want to stick to the larger tips though.

I am a little concerned about the darkness, not the richness. More richness in the tone is why I didn't like the jazz facings, but I suppose the two do have some correlation.

By the way, the Rousseau site says that the NC facing is more "centered." What exactly does that mean--a more focused, intense sound? The opposite of "spread", I assume?

I would tend to say more focused, yeah. Trying out a couple NC4's and an NC5, and they tend to feel waaay less spread than my Lakey.

Do you find that they project well?
