yesterday i was trying to get an A2 on a really crap reed and i found it came out totally easy by sort of screaming while fingering it. The same type of scream from that back of your throat that you would maybe use on a high D to get a raw dirty sound.
just thought that was an interesting concept.

yes, and I think there are a couple reasons for this. growling often involves blowing with more pressure, and a more open embouchure. both those contribute to hitting lower altissimo notes (F#-Ab) easier. I find screaming altissimo requires more control from altissimo B upward, as those notes seem to require a less forceful airstream and tighter embouchure.
