as with anything, you must give your student confidence, no matter what he does, give him the confidence to continue, let him know that hes getting better.
no matter how advanced a student is when you get him, always start with basics, that way, if there is anything to be fixed, you can work on it now, instead of noticing it a week before a performance.
once you get ot see the basic techniques of a student you know where youre heading
