View Full Version : Barrington Soprano Saxophone?
I might have a chance on getting a Barrington straight soprano saxophone, I once saw information on this on www.lasax.com .. www.barringtonmusic.com don't have any information on it..
Anyone has experience? Are they student models? Worth to try (sp?)?
I'm taking a look this Thursday, details coming up..
Thanks..
Take a tuner with you. Some (many?) horns may sound alright on their own but play so poorly out of tune that you cannot play them with any other instruments.

Barrington soprano is of the same lineage as L.A. Sax.

It's my understanding that Barrington is the student line of LA Sax, and that whereas the other LA Sax models have the parts made in Taiwan but are final-assembled into horns in the U.S., the Barringtons are entirely built to completion in Taiwan. As such, they should be compared with any of the many Taiwanese instruments currently on the market under dozens of brand names. Some will play well, but many will be poorly adjusted or even damaged right out of the box; most will look great (nice and shiny) but be made of relatively low-grade materials that probably won't last for decades the way a high-end horn will. Caveat emptor!!!!
uuuh..guys...sorry to ask..but what's caveat emptor? :?
so..the sop is not worth trying? Does it worth $500? I haven't actually found the time to see the sop..
oh yeah..I don't care about looks, shine, and others, my tenor and alto looks like they've been through the Iraq war (Selmer SA80I tenor and Conn pre-Chu alto..) not to mention my Dukoffs...

Well, I just finished mentioning in another thread that I'd sell my LA Sax Barrington......and here I find a specific thread devoted just to it.
Mine is in new condition....orig owner wanted to be Kenny G but gave up immediately and I got it.
I only played it for a couple of hours......I thought it was great.
When I get something, if it's crummy, I'll only toot it for 10 minutes.
As for intonation, I'm not one of those who bothers with tuners.....every mpc will change the intonation curve. (Test: first a Berg 70/3, then a Berg 90/1.......lotsa difs, eh?? then factor in different reed cuts and strengths. Even more difs. Dif mpc brands, as well. Then compute different player idiosyncracies........All more magnified on sopranos, too)
Anyway, mine's $550 including Priority Mail shipping.
Only thing non-new is the end handle, where the vinyl covering on the handle came unglued....I taped it back on.
From what I remember, they bill this as semi-pro or intermediate or something.....I recall that their pitch was that this is built to a higher standard of care than the competition or some such.
Merely email if this seems like something you'd like: mpcbliss@yahoo.com
Comes with un-filled-out guarantee card, but I ain't-a gonna claim it will do you any good sending it in, 'cause I just don't know.
