My next door neighbors have a lamp with an old sax on it. I've never looked at it, but the other day I asked about it. As it turns out, the lamp itself is actually an alto sax stand that looks like tree branches. The sax is not connected, and when I took it off, it was a The Martin Alto from about 1950 I think. For being a horn making it's rounds through the antique stores (where they got the lamp/sax combo), it was in excellent shape. There were no dents, no bent keys, the body was straight, and about 10% original lacquer.
It needs new pads, but every key was tight with good action. It was a surprising find. I don't think they'll part with it, but I may offer a deal to replace that sax with another.
So out of curiosity I went to the antique store where they got the lamp, and they had another saxophone lamp using a silver plated Conn from about 1918 (with the Eb trill). That horn was only worthy of being welded to the lamp like it was, it was beat up something awful.
