Just curious if anybody cares to share the merits and limitations of these two pieces. Extreme versatility is desired. I've only heard rave reviews about both.
Right now, a Morgan b-stock second has the edge in affordability...

Has anyone tried both?

(I love my Link 10* and am not looking for a different sound, but am about to consider another open, quality HR piece as a complement)

I've tried both. I play a HR Link. The Morgan was closer to that, the Lamberson J was much brighter, louder with some edge. The Morgan I tried didn't have the fullness of the Link.

I also tried 2 L chamber Lambersons and found them brighter than my Link. They are very nice mpcs ,it just depends on what you are looking for.

The Morgan 9L is a .110" and the Lamberson 8L is a .120". Maybe a small point but it may cause you to use a less stiff (and commensurately brighter) reed. Freds "7" is a .110".

I use a Morgan "L" .110" (a 7L refaced by Jon Van Wie) and a Lamberson J8. I like them both but realize that neither is a slant sig Link. I also understand that every slant sig Link is different as well and would probably be due for a reface if I could find one. Both are capable of delivering volume on call and tones from lush to husky to bold. I use RSJ 3S(U) and Francois Louis ligs on both.

The Morgan is a real bargain at the going B-stock prices. I like Fred's work too. You can work with him to fine tune your setup to match your needs. Fred is a longtime tenor player and understands the issues.
