I'm looking into buying one of these, it would be my first bari. I play and own an Alto and a Tenor already. I would like some thoughts on the YBS-52. Please post.

Thanks!

It's a good saxophone.

If you want more info, perhaps you should use the forum search button (http://www.saxontheweb.net/sotw/search.php), or maybe look into the entire subforum labeled Yamaha (http://www.saxontheweb.net/sotw/viewforum.php?f=131) a little more. There have been many, many posts about this saxophone, and how it stacks up against others.

Bariman,
Maybe you could go more into detail than "It's a good saxophone". I will check out other posts. Thanks!

I play on one in my school band and for the price tag, I'd say it is definitely worth it! If you're doing bari on the side in a jazz quartet or in a gig or do pit band with bari on the stand half the time, go with one of these.

Now if bari is your main thing I'd look into the 62 and possibly other pro models (Selmer, Keilwerth, etc)...have fun! :D

I play a YBS-52 in school and it is a great saxophone. The low notes seems to require more air for it to come out than other baris I have played. The sound is what you would expect out of a modern bari and the keywork is very comfortable. Another bari you cold consider is the Vito VSP, which I have been told is a solid horn with an excellent price. It is actually a Yanagisawa B901 with a different name stamped on the horn for much less than the B901.

Really? Low A comes out for me effortlessly. Then again I haven't played any Selmers or the 62 or whatever, maybe you have though :|

It just feels that way, not really a bad thing. I have played on a Buescher TT (mine), Selmer Signit, and a Selmer Mark VI.

I second the motion on the Vito VSP. I prefer it to the YBS-52, and it's around $700 less I believe............

One question...

I've noted on the 52 the A mechanism points to the left (opposite the octave key) and the ones on Selmers and the such point to the right (in line with the octave key)...this doesn't make sense to me for some reason. I'd much rather push left than right...how about you guys?
