I was wondering how the Ref 54 Alto is playing and holding up for those who have had it a good long while. Any regrets on purchasing it, or well worth the money?

I am playing my ref. 54 alto for over a year now and donīt regret buying it. Itīs the best alto I played in years. This was the horn I was looking for the last 20 years. 8-)

Cant speak for the alto but the tenor is a great horn. I use a barone neck and a lawton mpc. It wails. Additionally, the construction is superb.

I got my Ref 54 alto from Tim at Sax Alley last Sept. It played excellent from day one. A few weeks ago I started having some trouble with the low end. I noticed that the low b key wasn't popping closed completely. I took it to Tim for a quick ajustment and now I'm back in business. The low-end speaks so easy and beautifully.

I do have an issue where the middle d wants to sail way sharp sometimes, but that is a common feature of the alto saxophone. I've always had to open up and lip down on middle d with every alto I've ever played.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with how this great little alto has served me.

Mine's been trouble-free for the last year or so. It needed to be set up twice within the first couple of months as it leaked like a sieve and had two faulty pads. Still, since then it has proved itself reliable and very enjoyable to play.
