"Amati saxes are back and better than ever" That's what WWBW say's in there newest catalog anway!

Not much said here about Amati. Has anyone tried the 73PQ with the solid silve neck and bell. The $1299 price tag is pretty attractive and so is the horn! What about it's sound! construction, etc.

If not this one- what is your experiance with the Amatis in general :?:

Hi, the Amati does not have a silver neck and bell!

The web-site says it's nickel-silver, ie a non-brass alloy.

Still interesting, but I wouldn't want to be the first to try it!

Yes - I stand corrected. The catalog also lists it as nickel-silver, but i'm not sure if that's better or worse :?: Anyone :?:

If any of you guys (or gals) try one of these out, please post your findings.

Hi from France.
I ve ordered in Austria (Sonnleitner MusikHaus) the last Amati Tenor version (83 P),( total silver-nickled) and should receive it next week. This one is not available in USA for the moment.
The price annonced in WWBW (1299 usd) for the 73 P Model is simply normal compared to the Amati prices observed in Europe. The 83 P, on what I've been told, is very similar to the Keilwerth SX (but in maillechort finition, only available on SX R version) with all keys adjustable.
I use to play US vintage saxes, German ones in jazz combo or fusion band.
This one could be a very interesting hand-made sax with the latest keywork evolution and the soundiest alloy available FOR A DECENT PRICE.
Write you soon.
Erwan

So the AMATI 83 Q arrived this morning.
I've tested it with a Metal Lebayle Mpc N° 7 * (Oleg Lig) and a vintage HR Wagner (François Louis Lig) (Big Vintage Linklike Sound).
The result is simply amazing. Sound really like the Keilwerth SX 90 R. The mechanism is ergonomical, (I am medium size-handed), natural.
Finitions are exceptional, clean.
To test it is adopt it.
My favorite thing.
Erwan.

Hey Rat29,

How's that new Amati holding up? I'd like to know more about the 83 Q. Is the whole thing made of nickel silver? Rolled toneholes? Is the tone "brighter" than you'd get with a brass version?

To Wind.miller,
Yes the sax is totally made of silvernickel alloy. This gives a fast and clear sound response in all registers.
The bell bore is a large one (same as Keilwerth's)
It doesn't have the rolled tone holes.
You can see pics on an austrian site called sonnleitnermusikhaus. You will find it through google with no problem in english version.
The sound to me is " modern " oriented, a great allround sax with a big plus for jazz and fusion.
Lot of bang for the money.
