okay, i've heard that to stop biting and i guess also strengthen facial muscles, u can practice by playing w/o your teeth resting on the mouthpiece. i've been doing that today and it's very tough to get the note on pitch. anyways, if i were to practice playing like this to strengthen my embouchure, how would i practice it?

Sanbornfan,
Thanks for the link. It's a very helpful article. Interestingly, I developed this embouchure on my c-melody through trial & error and going by intuitive hunches. As I began to get really good results with it, I called Ralph Morgan and described my embouchure experiment to him. He chuckled and said "Of course...." and then went on to describe in detail why it works from the standpoint of mouthpiece and reed efficiency.
