Stencilman

I spent a good part of the day at the music store. I couldn't resist test playing the Yamaha and Selmer saxes while I was there. I tried several models: Yamaha '62 alto, 875 alto, and 475, 875 sopranos. Selmer SA80III alto and soprano SA80II soprano.
I could go on forever about my opinions of each sax, but the bottom line is that I would not trade my Martins for any of these horns. Really.
My 1927 Martin alto and soprano stencils both made in 1927 are now in top playing condition and today they played better for me than any of those shiny expensive horns. I could see that the keywork on the new horns could be a bit more comfortable for some players, but not me.
The repair folks at the store thought that my bare-brass and silver plated saxes are much more beautiful than those new horns!
