hello everyone,

my main instrument is trombone which i have been playing since i was 10 and i am now 15 but this past monday i took up the tenor sax. I played for my friend yesterday(he doubles on all saxes and almost every woodwind) and he was surprised at how good i sounded he said that i sound like i have been playing for years. Im happy with this but since im a bone player i dont have any movement in my fingers. Any exercises besides playing scales. Also ive been doing long tones should i start doing some overtones too as well. Oh and the setup im using is a 1920 Conn new wonder with chu berry features(its not a chu though i assure you) a yamaha 4c mouthpiece and rico royal 3 reeds(according to my friend since ive been playing bone so long that my chops are strong enough to handle it) also what can i do to get everything more stable like so i can go from maybe an F in the staff to a D below the staff cleanly. Thanks for reading.

The dexterity in your fingers will come with practice. You just have to know when to stop. Let your fingers tell you. Practice everything, long tones, scales etc. If you still want to be a bone player too then don't neglect practice on that too. When your fingers are too sore to practice have a couple of hot weiners and a coffee milk while soaking your fingers in a Dell's! :D 8-)

Well, mwhaa, you seem to have things under control and on the right track. I think T-bone's advice is good. You should probably go to the home page of SOTW and look for the lessons. There's a lot of good information there and things for you not only to play but to think about. Check out Paul Cohen's stuff particularly.
