A friend has come up with an ancient alto from his elderly neighbor's widow... silver (nickel?) finish. Finish is much like my Conn New Wonder C Melody. Has the low B tonehole on the left hand side of the horn, with the cross shaped guard. Also has the octave key with the complete circle around the neck. Sorta looks like a Conn, but not exactly. I played it, and it is a decent horn. Wouldn't mind having it, especially for the $300 or less that she is asking.
I'd just like to find out what it is, or what you think it might be. Thanks in advance for any info. :headbang:

Any name at all? If the serial number starts with a "P", it would be a Pan-American or other Conn stencil. Post anything that is written on the horn anywhere.

The cross shaped guard is common on most early horns.Conn stencils had a merc style low C key-guard.It could be buescher but a picture would help or serial number+prefix and the way the LOW PITCH is stamped either straight or curved can help in identifying the manufacturer

thanks guys.
I looked for low pitch, and didn't see it. The horn seemed to play at the correct pitch, though I didn't check it against a tuner. I had just been playing for awhile though, and didn't feel a problem. The serial number looked like 11115, but at the time I thought it could have been L1115.
I'll try to get a more thorough look. Again I thank you for the help.

Could be a buescher as i dont think they stamped stencils low pitch as they only made low pitch stencils(but i could be wrong)
