Does anyone know anything about the quality of the Weltklang baris? Sort of a poor stepchild of the Keilwerth, I take it.

An East German made sax, these can be quite a reasonable playing horn if set up well although they tend to come apart on you as you play them. They are ok but not great. If the price is cheap then go for it, if not then keep shopping around.

The one I was looking at was a very nice looking silver plated model. It's in Europe, so I would be buying without trying first. The price is about $1350.

Probably a little too high for what it is. The resale of a Weltklang will be very difficult and you are likely to loose a lot of money if you can sell it at all.

A difficult decision but I would advise that you look elsewhere because you will be able to get a Martin or a Buescher bari for that price if you look long enough.

Weltklang Baris where actually produced by Keilwerth, at least the "Soloist" model.

There was some discussion of Weltklang baris on the old forum. (Some of it is still in the archive under 'Hard to Find Saxes'.) The consensus seemed to be that they were much better than the tenors, altos and sopranos. Sarge at www.worldwidesax.com suggests that they were made by Max Keilwerth. For a similar view and lots of photos, see the one for sale at www.saxquest.com. To my knowledge 8 or 9 Weltklang baris have appeared on Ebay in Germany since Christmas. They sold for an average of 1,250.00 Euros. I assume from this that the Germans, who presumably have most experience with them, reckon they're pretty good.
