Hello, I am looking to buy a pro level alto, and wanted suggestions. I am mainly interested in Selmer. I do a lot of rock and jazz playing, so I want something loud and fat. Which selmer would be the best for this? Would I be better off getting a series 3? super action 80? or a vintage horn like a mark VI on ebay or something? also, why is there such a huge price difference in vintage selmers as opposed to vintage conns or other brands? also, should I be looking at other brands? yamaha? yanagisawa? Thanks a lot. I do want a horn that can produce a classical sound as well, but keep in mind my emphasis will be on rock and jazz. Thanks for the recommendations! -Matt

Hi Jasonjukebox, welcome to SOTW! The standard answers to your question are...

1)- Make use of the search button and prior posts. There have been many people who have asked the same question.

2)- Any pro horn (and almost any horn without leaks) can play any music!

3)- There is no substitute for playing as many horns as you can. Pro level/ beginner, it doesn't matter.

Hope this helps!

Also you might not have noticed that this area here is the "Selmer (USA)" forum. There are plenty of threads going on about all the saxophones you are asking about in the "Selmer (Paris) (http://www.saxontheweb.net/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=128)" forum - G o take a look :)

I'm gonna ask that this thread here gets moved over there

No such thing as a "classical horn" or a "jazz horn". You, the player, make the horn what it is.
