Dr. Bob Luckey has a new book, "Jazz Standards: Tenor Sax Artistry". It includes transcriptions, two tunes each, by eight great tenor saxophonists. Some of the tunes are the same tune, but as played by two different artists.
John Coltrane--"Bye, Bye, Blackbird" & Time After Time"
Stan Getz--"Out of Nowhere" & "Back Home In Indiana"
Coleman Hawkins--"Take The A Train" & "Body and Soul"
Zoot Sims--"East of the Sun" & "Autumn Leaves"
Sonny Stitt--"Our Day Will Come" & "Autumn Leaves"
Stanley Turrentine--"Wave" & Time After Time"
Lester Young--"Back Home In Indiana" & "Our Love is Here to Stay"
Dexter Gordon--"Body and Soul" & "Our Love is Here to Stay"
In the front of the book are biographical sketches, and the transcribed solos follow, complete with chord changes.
I am sure you will like Bob's newest book.
Bob is also author of "Saxophone Altissimo: High Note Developement for the Contemporary Player" (available in 5 languages!), "A Study of Lester Young and his Influence upon his Contemporaries", "Lester Young Solos" (transcriptions), "West Coast Jazz Saxophone Solos", as well as this latest book.
