This guy is probably the best Brecker Clone that I've heard. I actually like his sound a little better and he has lots of chops but is a little more easier to figure out what he's doing. I heard him doing the alto tracks on a crappy movie "Riff" last week and checked out the only Cd I found by him (Bryan Steele Group) off of the used Amazon bin. I think it cost me 4 bucks. Very fine player. Nothing new if you've listened much to brecker but he does the best copy I've heard. K

Listened to him a little more closely the last couple of days. He really is impresive. I don't care for Soprano much but he he pulls it off well (one track on the CD) and his tech on Sop is amazing. Plus he does a nice job of putting Sanborn like screams into his tenor phrasing. He's done his homework. K

That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. He is an old friend of mine, and a very interesting player. He's got great theoretical knowledge, to go along with some nice technique.
He's living in NY I believe.
Hello, I feel compelled to write about the amazing Bryan Steele. He spent a semester teaching at the University of Natal, in Durban, South Africa, as a buffer before I was able to get to the gig myself, I had had visa troubles getting into the country. I'd heard a couple of trio recordings with Bryan including his long time teacher J. Bergonzi playing (wonderful) drums. I was simply astounded. Bryan wowed everyone in Durbs, and as I taught there for a couple of years, all the players continued to speak in awe of him. He is an original voice, a superb musician and saxophonist, and while we only had a momentary meeting in NY at the '98 IAJE conferance, was obviously a very sincere guy. If anyone has the opportunity to hear Bryan, don't miss out. Cheers, DC

He used to play a silver plated Guardala Studio mouthpiece with a Rico 3 1/2 reed(orange box). His horn was a Mark VI if I remember correctly. I could be wrong. I'm really not into horns enough to really care what people use.
