Hello!

I play the Tenor and a vintage bass saxophone and I thought that i would never be interested in a saxophone higher than the Tenor. But recently I saw the semi-curved soprano on the Rampone and Cazzani website and it looks REALLY great to me. Now I have got a few questions about it:

I don't like the loud and sharp sound of most of the sopranos. I have read that the semi-curved soprano has a warmer and darker tone due to its semi-curved appearance. Is this correct?

I have heard that the intonation of the low D and down is not very good on the semi-curved soprano. Is this true? Do you have intonation problems with it?

What are the prices for the soprano in the USA? The European price of my German dealer seems to be quite high.

What finish looks good? Is there a picture where I can see some or all of the finishes Rampone has to offer?

Why do you like the Rampone and Cazzani saxes? Which advantages do they have compared to other saxophones?

Thank you very much, Okami

Go to www.saxforte.com, you'll see lots of high quality photos of the R&C saxophones... I've just ordered an fully curved soprano from him, in which a customized the finish and also added my name onto the horn... He shipped to me yesterday and I should receive it shortly, he took a picture of it and sent to me, I'll post here shortly... I can't wait 'til I play the sax.

Kenny.

My "soon to be played" R1 Jazz curved sop... It look so beautiful, and I believe it will be even better when I get a hold of it... Not for couple more days :)

Kenny: THAT is gorgeous. I'm sure you'll give us all a report when you've actually held it in your hands.

Okami: I owned a semi-curved R&C a few years back (and a sopranino, too). It was gold-plated, fully engraved and played as well as it looked. The horn's intonation was as good as it gets and the tone always warranted comments from the audience. Several experienced players came to the musicians' room where I was after the festival to examine the horn and play some notes on it.

My problem with it was racking it on stage while playing other instruments. I could not find a suitable stand for it and eventually went on to other sops. If you decide to buy one, I'll bet you'll love it. DAVE

Actually, SAXRAX (www.saxrax.com) is making a semi-curved stand soon :)
