I have a SML Gold Medal Strasser Marigaux alto sax that I was thinking about selling and I don't have a clue on what it might be worth. This sax was given to me by my father when I was in band at school. Now that I'm older and not playing any more I was thinking about posting it on ebay. But don't know the value? Can someone help me?

Thanks

I'll save you the trouble--sell it to me for the $300 it's worth, and I'll send the money tomorrow.

But seriously, some of these in great shape go for as much as 1800-2000. If this thing is in great condition and needs no work (that last part is critical), and you go on ebay, use an opening bid of about 700 and set your reserve at 2300. If you don't get action, you can always relist.

Others here will have differing opinions.

The price you can hope for also may also depend on the serial number. At about 20500, the Gold Medals lost their rolled tone holes, which matters to some people. All things being equal, anything earlier than that should be worth a bit more. There aren't many of these on the market these days, so you might want to see what you can get on eBay using the guidelines MAG suggests.

Thanks for the reply both of you. Where might I find the serial#? What I think I will do then is clean it up and take some pics and see what happens. My dad bought this back in 79 or 80 new I think at least it looked new, and I played for about 3 years. So it's been sitting in the case for about 20 years. I looked at it the other day and it still looks great it's gold with the nickel keys, the pads are the only thing that I know that needs to be replaced. This is a beautiful instrument I hate to sell it but I have no use for it, plus I'd rather see someone else get some use with it.

Thanks,

Thanks to all of you!!! I did what you said and it sold on e-bay for the reserved price of $2,300.00. The weired thing about it is the person that bought it lives by Buffalo NY. and I was going there on business so I was able to meet him and drop it off.
