I recently recorded a jam session with a few guys from school at my house. We used my Fostex 8-track digital recorder, and recorded the entire session all onto one track using a condenser mic. We recorded several tunes throughout the jam, with stops in between each. We loved how we sounded.

Anyways, I burnt the entire track onto a CD and ripped it off onto my computer (Windows XP). The whole thing (yes, 1 file!) is about an hour and 15 min. I listened to it and noted the times in which each tune started and ended, so I could have it for reference, and for editing purposes (obviously).

What I want to do is take those times (for example, 1:20-4:30) I jotted down and save them as different mp3 files. Basically, each tune we recorded will be it's own mp3 file, so I could make a CD of the tunes we recorded.

Does anyone know any software or anything that I could try out that would allow you to do this easily?

You could use PolderBits (http://www.polderbits.com), but that only does WAV formats, which is what I'd reccomend. I don't know why you want to convert to mp3, unless you were going to make a CD of an mp3 file instead of a cda or wav file.

I think you can use polderbits for a while for free. I bought a license a few years ago for $12 I think. It's probably more now.

Other than that, you can use Kristal (http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/), which is actually a digital multi track editor. It will work well though, and it's completely free.

Do a search on "mp3 trimmer," it's a small utility that can do what you're looking for.

Definately Cool Edit Pro. It'll do what you want, and more. Simple to learn the basic effects, like fade in/out, silence, and pruning the audio itself is mere highlight (click and drag) and the delete key, :)
