I need some help with a name for a Tower of Power/R&B/Funk band that I started. We've got the same instrumentation as TOP - 4 piece rhythm section and 2 trumpets, 2 tenors and a bari.

We're in hurricane and tornado alley down here, so I was thinking about calling us "Category 5", since that is the hardest blowing typhoon rating, and we have that 5 piece horn section out front.

However, if someone gets it wrong and puts a "The" in front of it, then it sounds like a lounge act playing at the Holiday Inn out by the Airport. :-)

Any ideas?

How 'bout "The Twisters"

I was in a Rock-a-billy band called "The Cyclones" until a few years ago. We had a logo of a tornado eating up a lot.

Why not just call the band 'Blown Away'

Do you also get tidal waves? How about "Tsunami!"?

That sort of sounds like "Dude, where's my band?".

I like Horatio and the Hornblowers, but it might be a little too cute. We'll have to talk it over though.

Gale Force may be a keeper.

There used to be a band around here doing that type of material called "Soul Foundation".

(Though more than one wag was known to refer to it as "Foul Soundation".)

I'm trying to decide if it is too tacky or not, but we're thinking seriously about Horndogs.
