My new R&C Jazz alto is officially on the way! Originally, I had planned on waiting for Mathew to get another vintage plate horn in, but the more I looked at the photos, the more I liked the polished finish. I will post a review once the horn arrives and I have a little time to acclimate and remove the rust from my fingers and embouchure! :D

SUCKER :o ...Naw kust kidding...you will NOT be disappointed. I am having my tech take the horn almost completely apart and set it the way I like it. Not that it needed it but I like the horns the way he sets them up...Congrats on the purchase.

I am guessing that like most new horns it comes setup pretty stiff? Youve had yours a few days now...care to add to the impressions on the horn?

Seems like R&C is gaining popular right now, i've just got my R1 Jazz Curved Sop. ordered throught Mathew yesterday :) It's custom to my "characteristics" so it won't be in my hand at least until end of December.

Well I have not had the horn for a few days. It is very mpc sensitive. It projects like no other alto. It just has a very big, Fairly BRIGHT sound with a big bottom. I am jonesen to my hands on the tenor & bari..

What mpc's have you tried on the horn? By sensitive, do you mean that the tone can be varied greatly depending on the choice of mpc, or that the horn seems to play well only on certain pieces? Mathew told me that the included mpc has a very large chamber, which makes sense given the bore size, but I dont want to stay on the dark side all the time. I should be receiving the horn tomorrow and will probably acclimate to it using a "vanilla" piece, either an old Meyer or a Hite artist (also a medium chamber piece). I cant wait...I needed a change in alto sounds, so hopefully this will get me closer to what I hear in my head. Christmas is tomorrow!

No. No. IMO I think that it has a variety of sounds with different pieces. I think that any good big chambered piece will work best. But what I like you may not!
