Hey, I'm a senior in high school. I'm lead tenor in the jazz band (among other groups around town) and lead my own quartet (sax, guitar, bass, drums).

Coming up in January the music department puts on the annual Swing Dance, which features the Jazz Bands (1 and 2) and the Vocal Groups. Though this year I want my quartet to play there, but we need lots of material.

Any suggestions for pnssible tunes to play that are good as background music (aka Swing Dance)? And if possible, in the real books? There are a couple I know of like All Of Me, Take The "A" Train, and Satin Doll that would be good filler material, but I've been stumped lately.

Thanks.

Hey, I just played a gig and we had to play dance music all night, same stuff. I used a SHER fake book titled all time standards or something. It has good dance tunes like strike up the band, Cute, Crazy Rhythm etc....

Something that works for dancing, is also to just let your rhythm section comp and no soloist, takes up time and good dancing music.

Your jazz band is probably going to play dance tunes right? like In the mood, pennsylvania 6500 and chatanooga choo-choo? So don't repeat those....if they're not playing those, make your own arrangements of them, i did it for this saturdays past gig and it went exceptionally well.
