Hi group, this is probably a common issue but I didn't see a reference on a quick look here.
For alto sax, when entering a chord progression from my charts (has already been transposed from concert) should I set the key as the indicated key on my part or set it for the concert key?
Ex - my part is in F and initial chords are EbM/Gm7/Dm7/Am7.....
Do I enter the key as F and the chords as shown in order to get the correct pitch playing for the whole band. Or do I need to set the key to something else (eg-related concert key)? Or, what...?
Thanks for the info.

Sorry, mind is mush - example in first post should have said key of Bb.
Since you have already entered the chords transposed for alto sax, this is what you should do:
In the menu bar on top, choose "Opt." and then "Preference".
In the preference window that will open, enter 3 (for alto sax) in the "Concert pitch adjust" field box (-2 tenor sax)
This will display the music/chord progression the same as you have entered it in the first place. Only changing the pitch of your computer's sound card to adjust to your instrument.
But what you should do is enter the chord progession in Concert. Then in the menu bar choose "Not'n" and then "Option". In the Notation Window Option that will appear, select "alto sax +9" under the "Transpose option" field, or the instrument of your choice.
Doing as abouve will make your computer sound card play in the Concert key but transpose the music/chords into the right key for your instrument.
Have Fun :D

Excellent, Kim. Thanks. I figured that there was an easy wasy to do this.
I'm guessing that this then becomes a default setting for all tunes that are created???? In this case, is it possible to now start inputting chords in concert using your suggestion or will that affect all the tunes - putting the ones that I have already set up in my key, into some other key?
Further, since it will take a lot of work (for me) to think in concert key working from my parts, is it possible to enter a progression in my key, then do a transpostion into concert with the option then set at 9? -if this makes sense to you.
Thanks, from a sunny Ottawa.

Not exactly. It becomes a default setting for all tunes opened onbe you have setted BIAB with one of the two the preference/options settings I've mentioned above.

Yes, that will affect all the tunes already entered in BIAB (only when you select that option) What you could do for the tunes that you have already entered into your key is open them one by one, change the key back to Concert, and save it that way. In the future they will open in Concert but once you set BIAB like I mentioned above, they will appear on your puter screen into your key, ready to play :D

Yeah, for this you can use my first suggestion using the "Opt." and then "Preference" but I find it becomes confusing, especially if you have a lot of tunes into BIAB, to remember wich were entered in Concert and wich were not.
Anyway, I hope that makes sense.
So, is the snow all gone in Ottawa? Here we still still got some left. I can't wait until it's all gone!!
