I know this is covered somewhere but couldn't find it.
Just got an old horn and the case reeks of, well,...... old horn. Anyway to get the odor out of there or do I just need to spring for a new case?
TIA

I remember there being a thread on the old board about this and someone here was planning to market something, Stinkaway? he he.. seriously though there was some talk about it.
Some years ago I picked up an old Martin tenor and the case , whoooooo boy did it stink, all the way to the garbage heap ;-) once the stink gets in there its tough to get out. you might spend mre in time and effor than a new case would cost.
Also if you do get a new case, don;'t put that horn into it until it's destinkified... it will contaiminate the new case. all the felts and pads will hold that stink...

Bill,
I'm going to get the horn overhauled (old R13 A clarinet) should that destinkify the horn or is there something else I should do to the horn also?
Thanx

If you want to get rid of the smell in a case, talk to your dry-cleaner or upholsterer about a fire damage recovery service. This service should have an ozone chamber. The ozone will kill whatever is growing in your case and the smell won't be back. Usually they deal in large lots, so see if you can get your case thrown in with another job.

MBushaw is right, I remember Ray (Blessed Sax) talking about this, it's his business after fire restoration etc. I guess it all depends upon the condition of the case other than the stink.
