I recently purchased a beautiful 582LQ Antigua Soprano from Chuck at Kesslers. Great horn in every way!

I am curious though. My horn has the words "Antigua Winds" written on the bell. These words are below a triangle with a circle within the lower portion of the triangle.

I have seen other Antiguas that have the words "Antigua Winds" written slightly larger than on my horn, but on these horns there is no triangle.

The style of cases are very different for both horns also.

Are the horns without triangles, older Antiguas? Are there any differences in the horns beyond the insignias? Thanks for any info. you might have.

I have owned an Antigua 580 which is the older version of the current 590. I now own a 590. On the 580 the name is defiantly larger. There is a night and day deference between the new horns and the older ones. Antigua made a huge step forward with the new line. The intonation in the older horns in not very good, but the new horns play right on. The tone of the horn has also improved greatly.

iflybycat............. did your older Antigua have the Triangle on the bell above the"Antigua Winds" script? Or was it just the script? Thanks

I guess another way to state this is..... Do all new Antiguas have both the triangle and the script?

Terry,

Antigua recently did a logo change to the following logo:

This is what is Now showing on all of their saxophones. For the 1st 12-13 years of their history, the horns had no true "logo" but rather the words "Antigua Winds" in a cursive script text.

Hope that helps!

Here is picture of how this logo looks on an actual horn. This particular is off of one of their new Power Bell altos:

That looks to be a model 505 (which they dont do anymore). Those were essentially a Mark VI copy and Very good horn. That was made in 2000 would be my guess.

On the engraving on the bell, right off to the right of the low Bb tone hole on the bell, there should be a vertical line ingraved that then has the rest of the engraving branching out of that vertical line. If so, then its definately a 505LQ.

thanks so much dave-quite helpfull to know what model it is. yes its a mk6 copy allright. i pretty impressed with the quality for so little $ . i was going to just turn around and sell it for a profit (as i got only 150$ in it) but might just keep it as a gigging horn.

yeah it really is a great horn. We think the reason they stopped making it is because it is made in a factory different from the factory that makes all of their other horns. So they were pressured out of it essentially.

I have I think 3 remaining new at $695.00. Thats the horn we used our Solist AS441 to replace.

dave-another antigua story. i have a GOLDEN CUP sop that is the same as the ones being sold on ebay for around 200$. i was floored by the quality of these sops for 200$ -it turns out they are antigua 586 lq!!!!! i was able to compare due to your very high quality pics of one on ebay today. every feature is identical right down to the metal thumb hook. mine came in a ultra cheap pressboard vinyl covered case but for 200$ i cant complain. i havent seen one on ebay for a while so i am glad i got mine when i did.

Super20Dan,

No offense but the Golden Cups are made in China. They may have the same cosmetic but they are not the same horns. I have a Chinese made Yani copy soprano in the shop right now for repair and to be honest, it isnt half bad.

However, it does not play the same. It plays decent for $200 but is much more restrictive, stuffy and not quite the intonation. Still, for $200 not bad.

Pictures can can only show you the cosmetics.

Hi DaveKessler I saw an Antigua Winds Alto in a pawn shop It has no logo and on the back under the thumb hook it is marked ww-510 serial number is 86123xxx. The horn looks almost new the bell brace has what looks like capital A or R inside a double circle. The color is dark it looks like copper. The pawn shop is asking $425.00 for it. Is this a good price?
Thanks for any information you might have.

Too much. That is an older model 510LQ (made in 1997 based on the serial number series). The newer model 500LQ is only like $495 brand new and is a better playing horn then the 510 was.

How about this one? This is for an Antiqua tenor.

Dave, can you please shed some light on another serial number... A3125674? I think is a 520LQ.

Is there any truth in the earlier comment about the pre logo horns being not as good? If its true the new ones must be stellar as I have no complaints about my non logo Alto!

Keep up the good work, when we win the Lotto and I can get a new horn (well, horns if its a big win:) ), I know where I'll be looking!
