Selmer has just added in their new (60 Page) instrument catalog a new saxophone series.
Selmer "La Voix" AS220 and TS220.
This is their new Taiwanese made step up instrument. This is Conn-Selmer's battle against the Cannonballs and horns of that nature. However, also keep in mind that Conn-Selmer is now the distributor for Yanagisawa (through Leblanc, a subsidiary of Conn-Selmer).
Whats Really interesting is that the La Voix (French for "The Voice" I assume) is a Red Brass (Bronze) Ultra Bell (Large Bell) horn.
By the description, it LOOKS to be that these new horns are the same horn that I was buying as my CR Kessler Bronze series (which I was going to discontinue because of the factory bringing in an itermediary company to handle the "Smaller Accounts" which was going to raise my price!).
This is my speculation based on the specs I am seeing in their new catalog. Heres the info:
New Selmer La Voix AS220 Alto
Ultra Bell design, red brass construction, high F#, double arm low C & B, reinforced table arch. Selmer S80 C* Mouthpiece
Retail: $2590.00
K&S Sale: $1350.00
Silver Plated: $1425.00
Black Nickel Plated: $1425.00
New Selmer La Voix T220 Tenor
Ultra Bell design, red brass construction, high F#, double arm low C & B, reinforced table arch. Selmer S80 C* Mouthpiece
Retail: $2975.00
K&S Sale: $1495.00
Silver Plated: $1555.00
Black Nickel Plated: $1555.00
I am glad that they are at least putting a C* mouthpiece in there.
Whats odd is that in their price book, they put it above the American made step up AS210 or TS200 and right below the Selmer S80II.
Most likely, they will make the first debut of these horns at NAMM in January 2005. I do not know if there is any way to get one before then.
However, I will say that if it is the horn that I am thinking it is, then it was a VERY good move for Selmer to have it in their line up. We have had no problems with the horns and have discontinued ours only because of price.
If I get any other information on these horns, I will of course post here.
