I have a beloved Dukof that is getting quit a tooth groove on the top tooth guard. I don't bite to much but have a fairly sharp incisor. The plastic on the Dukoff seems a bit soft. Is there anyway to have the toothguard replaced?

It can be repaired or replaced. I fill them in with a black Acrylic compound.

If you can get used to them, you should use a clear mouthpiece patch. You may also be able to get a Dentist to take a little edge off your tooth.

Just a random thought, I read that John Coltrane asked his dentist to shape his upper front teeth to the shape of his link.

I was under the impression that Trane had to buy tons and tons of links to accomadate his teeth problem...?

Didn't Coltrane use a double lip embouchure because of dental problems?

I think Stan Getz was the one playing with the double lip embouchure after he lost his front teeth. Coltrane had a bridge put in, but he couldn't get his old sound back so he bought a whole duffle bag of Links and refaced many of them.

To add to the Coltrane stuff. I remember reading an interview with Coltrane (I think with Nat Hentoff of Downbeat) where Nat asked John why his tone was different than before....this was when the Crecent album came out. Coltrane rolled his eyes and said he had really messed up because he had taken his favorite Link and had it refaced and the guy ruined it. Supposedly spent the rest of his life seeking another piece. Another story is that Trane went to see a refacer once and he walked in with a soprano case. The refacer was thinking "Cool! I get to work on Tranes soprano piece"! Only to be surprised because when Trane opened up the soprano case it was full of tenor pieces he had been trying that he wanted work done to.
