just bought an old Selmer Bundy alto, was wondering what sort of reputation these have got.
it's from the early sixties, and was made in the USA. other than that there's not a great deal i know about these. i've only had it two days, but its' a deffinate improvement on my old one (evvette - apparantly a french copy).

In all likelihood, this horn was made by Buescher just before the company was purchased by Selmer. These horns are not bad players at all. I have a similar Buescher 200 Aristocrat, and I like both the action and the way it sounds - clear and compelling. What MP are you using? My current favorite is a Jumbo Java A75.

I have a Selmer Bundy II. The serial number is 829047. Is this anywhere near yours? I really like the sound of this horn, and the repairman I use says its a good horn. I've been wanting to try a new mouth piece, so here's a question for Knighttrain, what process did you go through to get to a Vandoren A75.

Not sure what you mean about process. I decided to try one based on what people in this forum said about the Jumbos. I selected the A75 as that tip opening was close to the 95/2 Metal Berg Larsen I had used for years. I still like the Berg's clear sound, but the A75 is much freer blowing, projects better, and is better with both high and low notes. I ordered it from woodwind and brasswind (wwandbw.com)

Does it say "Bundy Special" the under it "by Selmer" and have a German serial number? If so, we have the same horn my friend. I like mine, prefere it to my friends yamaha. Well, good luck with it.

No its just a Bundy II by the Selmer Co. Selmer "America" I think? I believe it is a popular beginners horn in the mid-west (u.s.).

I've heard good things of Bundy II's. I have only played one (one of my other friends lowners while his was in the shop) and I liked the tone and it played easy for me.

What mouthpiece / reed set-up are you using? I would really like to try that Vandoren A75 or even the 95/2 BurgLarson. I'm still playing a #2 reed. The important thing is that the sound coming from the horn doesn't distract me from practicing.

I've been playing almost 2 years and have been saving for a new sax (Conn 6m) I still have a no name stock mpc, I'm using a Rovner Lig. Like the ligature much better than stock. I am using VanDoren #3 reeds, but I don't like them too much. It was just a step up from a rico for me. They play well, and are consistent, which is what I needed. I'm looking into getting a lot of mpc's (5) and if I do I will post which one came out the best.
Is the old Bundy alto in the original post the one with the triangular-shaped key guards on the bell keys? I've never played one of those, but they "look cool"!

I have an Early 60's original Bundy..not a Bundy II. It has the triangular bracing over the pads on the bell. Serial number is 539336. i receently bought a new horn and I was wondering what my Bundy is worth. It is in very good condition with no corrosion, and lacquer is all original at about 99%. Only minor scratches. Any help with appraising this horn is greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

In general the Bundy's and Bundy II's aren't worth a lot. The Bundy's are essentially the same as the same era Buescher Aristocrats. These are basically student horns with nickel keywork and what seems to be a smaller bore. In spite of this they generally play pretty well and have very good intonation.
In comparing my Bundy II to my 63 Buescher 400 I have noticed that the key heights on the Bundy II are much higher. The bell is a lot smaller than my big bell 400 and there are various significant differences in keywork and placement of the bell keys.
The general rule of thumb seems to be if a Buescher has back mounted Bell keys (we're talking the later ones up to maybe 1964 or about 405k) then it's probably going to be a higher quality horn.
On ebay you might get $300 for the Bundy but probably less.
