There's a difference between cleaning and polishing, no? Seems to me, the best thing to do is clean a nickle plated horn with a slightly damp soft cloth.
To clean my black nickle soprano, I wipe the horn down with a piece from a fleece blanket, made damp with a spritz of 30:1 water/Simple Green detergent. Then I use another piece of fleece to make sure the horn is dry. It cleans the finger prints and dried spit off of the horn and is gentle on the finish.

I use Yamaha lacquer polish on all my nickel-plated keilwerths. Works great! :)
