View Full Version : Fibracell strengths
I was wondering what strength Fibracell I should try to be equivalent to a V16 2.5 on tenor. I am seeing different things on different strength charts. I am looking for a full, buzzy tone. Might this be a good option. Right now the V16 is the best that I have found for what I am looking for. Thanks for your input.

according to Fibracells chart

It looks like you should use a 2.5 or 3
I use Fibracells all the time, you should have no problem getting the buzzy sound your looking for.
ps.
I just received two new Fibracell 3's from Charlie A's. They look different now than previously. They say 'Premiere' on them in red and look like they are cut differently than the original reeds. I have purchased may Fibracells in the past that were in half sizes that looked just like the original Fibracells.
Does anyone know if these 'Premiere' reeds are actually different or did they just change the name??
I found a fibracell 2 or 2 1/2 to be close to V16 2 1/2. However, I shortly went back to cane because I had some trouble with altissimo and tone quality on the fibracell. Of course, it might work for you. Also consider trying Vandoren ZZ for a similar, but fuller sound to the V16. You may have to move up to a 3, since ZZs are a bit softer than V16.
