View Full Version : Morgan L or Lamberson J tenor mpc?
I'm playing a V16 T75 and I'm happy with it to play R&R, but need a darker mpc for some situations. I have a current production tone edge that I don't like very much...
I'm thinking about a morgan 6L / 7L or Lamberson J6. Someone says me that the Lamberson is litle brighter. Any other comparison?
Thank's.

Morgan, of course
I haven't played a Morgan on tenor, but I own a Lamberson J7 mouthpiece - it's brighter than my HR Link, but not a lot brighter - it's just a different color, a slightly different shade! :)
Both Fred and Ralph's mouthpieces are fantastic, and I've had nothing but great experiences with both of them - they're really friendly and always offer great advice.
The Lamberson mouthpieces seem to run a size bigger than others - the J7 measures .110, which is bigger than a Link 7.
Good luck!

I use a JVW/Morgan "L" .110" on my Ref 36 and a Lamberson J8 (.120") on my Borgani. The Morgan seems a bit more refined, the Lamberson more flexible regarding range of colors. I've played smaller Morgan's and Lamberson's but these are real expressive tools. Both are flexible enough to be brighter or darker for an individual player. Both are very responsive to reed and lig selection - although that's not to say that either is "finicky".
If you really want dark, you're headed in the right direction with either one. Staying with the smaller tip openings is a good call too. My favorite small group setup is a JVW/Morgan "C" .095" with a Vandoren (blue box) 3 and a Francois Louie lig - it happens to be my classical setup but blows jazz very well too.
