View Full Version : Creating a baffle
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I want to build up a baffle in a metal mpc. and was wondering what is the best material to use and the best method.
Thanks.

Dental wax works great. Easy to shape, cheap and it stays as long
as you leave it. You can make all different shapes, sizes, close
or far from the tip. Lots of fun!
Thanks for the reply, this sounds like what I need but where would you purchase such a product.
Thanks.

2 Questions -
- What kind of tools do you use to work the dental wx or poster putty or whatever that you have in that small space?
- Once you find a shape you like, would you get better response by changing that baffle to real epoxy instead of the softer material?

i've used kneaded eraser, mortite and dental wax(the kind used on braces). the eraser and the mortite are good, though they stain metal. the dental wax was way too messy when reshaping or removing. now i use elmer's tac n stik(maybe you'd also call this blue tac or white tac). works very well and doesn't stain. i just use my fingers to shape it inside the mthpc. i've never felt the need to make a 'permanent' baffle. the tac n stik is quite stable. on the rare occasion when i ruffle it a bit when swabbing, i just smooth it out very quickly and easily by hand.

I have also used the poster putty/blue tac that herschel mentions. It's cheap, readily available, and very easy to work with. It can be very educational to work with.
