I have seen a number of aftermarket necks for my Selmer Series II bari.

For instance, Selmer markets a thin and thick wall and silver plated versions.

Gloger makes some...as well as other manufacturers.

Considering how short the actual neck is, can it have that great an effect sonically? Wouldn't the mouthpiece selection make a much greater difference?

Well, based on my very limited (recent) experiments with non-standard necks on my Conn 12M bari (as recounted in gory detail in other posts on this esteemed WebSite), my opinion is that, although the sound can certainly be affected by different necks, even greater effects occur to the response and intonation when necks are swapped. But this is based on very limited empirical observations (pardon the big words, I gotta use them somewhere..........).
