Man, you can get a Sterling Silver B&S Medusa tenor for around $4,400! Wonder how it compares to a $9,600 Yani sterling silver tenor? Randall, any thoughts? :?:

Just one correction, you can get the T9937 Yani new for about $7k

Wish I could tell you how they stack up to each other, we have never had either Sterling model in stock because rarely do we have people who are seriously interested in them.

Hi Joe, sorry for the late reply...just saw your post....
I have played both horns....
The Yani is a truly magnificent horn, but when I played it I felt that I had to push it too hard to get it to do what it should be able to do.
This is not to say it isn't great. It IS great!
I just felt it had too much resistance for me.
The nice thing about the Yani is that I believe it, unlike other silver horns, could be used in a classical setting as well, if that is your interest. But I have to push it too hard to get the sound I want for a Jazz, latin or R&B setting.

On the other hand, the sterling Medusa tenor is a horn of just the right amount of resistance and a has the flexibilty to be focused or spread sounding depending on what you put into it. It is also incredibly powerful.
To me, it allows the player's sound to come out, and is effortless to play. Virtually everyone who plays my Medusa (Silver tenor and sand finish alto) say they are REALLY impressed with how easily they play and how fine the intonation tone and altissimo are.

I guess the price difference is a moot point, the Medusa is simply a better value to me as a player. I had set my heart on a sterling 2001 several years ago after playing one and being totally blown away by it.
Then the Medusa was produced....I would have gotten it no matter what the cost (within reason). Luckily it wasn't anywhere near the Yani, which is, I believe not in the reasonable price range.

As much as it hurts me to remind myself of this, I just remember that silver is around 5 to 6 bucks an ounce at any given time.

Now if Selmer would just produce a Ref 54 tenor in sterling.....

Randall- thanks for the scoop! Did you have to pay an extra $600 for the Gecko and extra engraving?

Joe, Mine had a LOT of extra engraving and also I had the keys gold plated...these things added onto the cost considerably. However, it was STILL a great deal cheaper than the Yani.
