Plastic Reed

I have an entirely plastic reed for a baritone saxophone. What is your take on reeds such as these?

which brand of them? I'm assuming your refering to a legere or other such brand.

From what I've heard, they give off a very bright sound. Personally I don't use them but have heard them played.

My legere is quite dark in tone, and It's kind of... I dunno... grown on me. I didn't like it at first but now that I've played on it for a while I really like it. I seldom use synthetic reeds for solo playing, but I find that they are very good for marching. Especially here in the dry climate we have here in Australia.

I promise you, using a plastic reed will hurt ur emouchure and effect ur intonation.

Scotty, I'm not gonna tell you your wrong because everyone likes different stuff. But, how can you be so confident that it would do that?

I've used a number of different brands of plastics and really the difference wasn't substansial enough for me to order them everytime I needed a new one instead of just going to the store. Did you try different ones and different strengths before deciding them all bad?

The brand is BARI. I didn't buy it at a store; it belongs to a sax player in my section. Does this help anyone?

I've used several of the synthetic reeds. I prefer Fibracell, more like real cane. Bari brand, for me, are brighter, and colder sounding, but reliable.

I'm currently playing plasticovers, and have fibracells in teh number 2 slot, and some Bari brand on hand as well. Try it, if you like it, use it.

Dave Leibman played Bari brand for a while, Jackie McLean as well, Gary Thomas, Nick Brignola too. Just to toss out a few name players who have "admitted" playign synthetic reeds.
