I recently bought an orange box of Rico (It's the box with the new design so I'm guessing these reeds should be fresh) Anyhow, I have this problem with mildew, black lillte mushrooms with white fuzzy hairs :dazed: growing on the reed - I always wash my reed and mpc before playing, and try not to forget taking the reed off the mpc after playing - Even though I do forget occasionally, I never had this problem with reeds before - Those Ricos that I bought all it takes is forget about removing the reed from the mpc 1 time and that's it; black mushroms with fuzzy white hair inside the reed... Is it just me or anyonelse is having the same problems with Ricos lately?

Anyhow, I have this problem with mildew, black lillte mushrooms with white fuzzy hairs growing on the reed...Yo, Kim. What are you complaining about? I just got back from an 8-day trip to Amsterdam and we had to pay for that stuff there !!!

I sympathise. White mushrooms with black hairs are cool, white with white hairs are good, even black with black hairs are pretty stylish, but black with white hairs!!! Ugh.

Oh... I see, that's the "good stuff" right?
Well instead of throwing the reed with funky stuff away, next time I'll keep it -

Who wants some?
Selling each reed for 5 CANADIAN $$ <--- verrrry cheap
Taking orders right now
100% :dazed:  :dazed: Garanteed

LOL. Excellent choice, Kim. All the emoticon needs now is dread locks.

To be serious, I have never had that problem (although I use other reeds) nor heard of it and I have some students and colleagues who play Rico oranges.

Maybe it's a secret plot to get even with all you Fr..., well, you know, you people who speak with funny accents, and to prove that WoMD really do exist.

So these are Mushrooms of Mass Destruction? Well at least they exist. This sounds seriously grotesque. I've had reeds develop little black spots on them if I put them back in those little plastic guards before they dry but nothing like this. Maybe the cane has some spores in it that are activated when they get wet. I know that sounds even more disgusting. Can you post a photo? I'd send them to Rico when you've got a good crop growing.

Darn, I knew I should have taken a photo!
No sorry Jim, instead I just threw the reed away.

So I take it that this didn't happen to anyone else?? I think next time I'll simply buy another brand of reed.

Maybe it's a secret plot to get even with all you Fr..., well, you know, you people who speak with funny accents
Well, that depends... to me you all have funny accents

Hey Kim, Gary advised me (on another thread) to go into business with you as I have been growing those "black lillte mushrooms with white fuzzy hairs" on my Vandorens too.

ROTFLMAO !!! Thanks man. I bet I've watched it about 18 times now.
(I know. I am sick.)

Even if you only watch it once, it feels like you've seen it 18 times.

(Science note: Badgers looove mushrooms. But they're also quite capable of killing and eating snakes. They have few predators other than man, outside of Flash movies anyway.)

Heheheh!
It took me a while to realize it was a loop

But I think there is something addictive to it... lemme go check again

I was thinking of using Oolon Coluphid (author of the theological blockbusters "Where God Went Wrong", "Some more of Gods Biggest Mistakes", and "Who Is This God Person Anyway".) but somehow the name of a non-descript englishman seemed more appropriate....

You could always be a small slug of genus A-Rth-Urp-Hil-Ipdenu...but you'd still be a complete kneebiter. I just want you to know that. 8)

This is by far the greatest thread I've ever seen :)

Maybe to pull it a tad back on topic, the worst I've had is black mold. Sounds like you got a bad batch, or you should brush your teeth more, either way

The most plausible explanation is the "dormant spores" theory.

Sick.. >_<

Seeing as you've never had a problem quite this bad, I doubt it's you, :P

Who have you been kissing lately?

This should perhaps be a matter for inner reflection rather than public debate.
