Hi
I am now playing on a otto link tone edge hard rubber mouthpiece 7*. Before that I played on a Beechler Diamond Inlay hard rubber mouthpiece S7S. I am a senior in high school and switched because i felt the beechler was to broght and edgy for jazz band and the upper register was sharp. Yet it is my favorite out of the 2 because of the unique sound it gives me. Any suggestions on how to make the beechler more in tune or tone it down? Or should i stay with the otto link?

Maybe it's different on your horn, but my S7S plays pretty well in tune (including up high), providing I give it adequate air support. Try practicing long tones with a tuner up high like that. I agree that the sound of the beechler is nice.

For intonation, you need to resist biting the upper notes sharp. Check your embouchure against the mouthpiece pitch exercise described in Paul Coats' articles.

To make the piece sound less edgy, try taking in a little less mouthpiece so your bottom lip dampens the sound some.
