Cannonball Black Ice Tenor (T1-B Ice)

Just got my new Cannonball Black Ice tenor - WOW. Saxual Eye Candy.
Spent most of the day getting to know each other, with a huge
respect created for the Black Ice tenor.

Quality - Have four older sax, tenor, alto and C-Melody. Conn, Pan
American, etc. The Cannonball big bell is a high quality professional unit.
I have recently tested the B&S Medusa - (@$2700) and the Cannonball is head and shoulders better in quality, feel, tone and performance.

Tried several mouthpieces with best success reached with my Rovner
ST8T (110) and a Jumbo Java tenor. Both with large openings. The
stock Cannonball #7 and even a JodyJazz #9 were less than
effective. The Cannonball really liked the large openings, easy
blowing mouthpieces. The Rovner ST8T worked best for jazz high
volume applications, and the Jumbo Java was as crisp as you would
want. . .

Overall. I am speechless. The Cannonball Black Ice sets the bar.
Someday, I hope to have the skills required to play as well as the
Cannonball Black Ice can perform.

Welcome any input on mouthpiece or setup options. . . :D

Howdy, just got my black ice tenor week before last. Say what pearls did you get in yours? Mine came with the picasso jasper multi (which is the default option from the company on blk ices now i guess). It's such an awesome horn.

Anywho, I was using a 60's berg hr (115/2/m) which doesn't work too well (for me) on the cannonball even though it feels great on other tenors (it's that dang baffle). The sound doesn't really suffer so much, but there's way too much resistance for me to feel comfortable playing it. Right now im using a brilhart 'hard rubber' which is just playing like a champ. Meyers (you could try a 5 or so) dont sound too bad either. Just get out there and try out whatever you can find.

Hey if you're looking for a new case (since that CB one is so huge) that looks really classy w/your horn, check out the Pro Tec leather tenor case. It isn't the most protective case in the world (its leather!) but it fits my tenor like a case that fits a tenor really well. It has a spot on the inside for a neck and a mpc, two pockets on either side of the contoured case (one for swabs, neckstraps, etc. and the other for cellphone, pencils, misc. stuff) and shoulder strap. Basicly you should have a much more stout case if you need to travel somewhere or there's a chance of it taking some hits. However, show it some care and everyday moseying shouldn't be a problem. In other words, no dropping it down a flight of stairs or something. :D

Hope you continue to enjoy your new tenor for years to come, its a great horn for the price.

ps- try to get your hands on a shiny (non beat-blasted) silver-plated neck. Trust me you'll like it! 8)

Me too!! Just picked up a the same Tenor, Raven. Funny thing about it, I didn't even noticed the pearls until I read this thread :lol: Sold my Selmer Mark VII today and went right down to the shop and laid the bread on them. I've been looking at these horns since the sax player for Dave Wakeling ( English Beat ) came through here three years ago. I'm glad I waited as his version was the older one.
