clipping butt of reed

I just tried clipping the butt end of my soprano reeds to fit the mouthpiece ( so nothing is hanging over). It seemed to make it play a little freer without altering the tone much.

Does anybody else do this?
Any down side?
I got the idea reading some post about about the length of the reed should match the mpc.
I just used a pair of diagonal clippers.

i don't see why any reed butt hanging over the edge would cause any difference in sound quality

probably just a placebo
