mouthpiece compatability issues

Do you ever have an experience that a horn does not play well except with a certain mouthpiece and vice versa?

I had an old Buescher that isn't able to play any low notes except with an old Buescher mp.

Also, had a old Conn mp that doesn't play with anything (even an old Conn sax) except with a Keilwerth that I have.

Does anybody else have this experience?

I find that I have certain horns that sound better with particular mouthpieces or have better intonation. Generally speaking my vintage horns work better with large chamber pieces and my newer horns work very well with medium chamber pieces. Sometimes you may have to find the right reed combination as well for a given mouthpiece. I have a Florida link that works best with Vandoren ZZ's and is o.k. with regular Rico's. Other reeds don't sound right on it.
