View Full Version : Do You Have Bill Clinton's Saxophone?

In his new memoir, Clinton writes that as a young man, "The only...valuable thing I owned, the Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone Mother and Daddy had given me in 1963, had been stolen out of my car in Washington. Eventually I replaced the sax with a 1935 Selmer `cigar cutter' model."

Whatever else you may think of the guy, at least he had good taste in horns.

My God! Bill Clinton had a Mark VI; then a "Cigar Cutter"! What a waste of great horns! 8)

My Grandfather, a true blue Democrat, would be happy to know that the former President of the United States had such good tastes in horns.

The new clinton biography looks very interesting - I'll have to add it to my summer reading list.

What about his taste in other matters? :)

Eh, I mean is he supposed to be a great McDonald's fan?

"The only...valuable thing I owned. . . stolen out of my car in Washington."

He left them in a car in washington DC? I don't leave my horns in a car even in IA.

He was presented with a Selmer III in Dinan 2 years ago, so all is not lost for Bill.

I think he was given an LA Sax at some point during his Presidency. What did he play on the famous appearance on the Arsenio Hall Show? I think it was black lacquer with a metal piece, maybe a Berg?

Man, when I hear the words "cigar cutter" and "Presidential sax" why do I immediately think "Moniques" too?!

I saw on ebay someone advertising for "President Bill Clinton's sax played at first inaugural ball."
it was funny, because there was no way to tell if it was his sax, and it was priced at 10k
kinda funny when you hear here that he only had a mk VI and a cigar cutter

Gary,
Don't go there brother. :)
We followed that particular line of thought a few days ago and all we got for our efforts was a big fat CENSORED.
I mentioned this thread to Bootman and Marty on the w/e and they were both extremely creative. Does the fact that our purile remarks and juvenile observations were tasteless, crude and bordering on the obscene, deny us our right to freedom of expression?

...................Maybe we're regressing to our youth.

     Pretty soon we'll all be acting as silly acting as skinny pencils look skinny. ROTFL.

If you don't want to be censored, don't say any purple stuff. Simple.

Don't start any more contentions. :argue: And above all...

......... GROW UP. ......

Very creative gary. Liked it very much.

Dogpants is just letting his Ocker side out for a while. At least he is much more coherent and easy to follow than Coruch.

My real question is does it matter? We can all easily ignore what is going on or realise that Dogpants is just trying to stir things up a little by being a little less than Politically Correct.

...Hi Bootman!...Big time Bill played Everette Harps tenor at his inaugural ball. I got Everette on video stating that too. I never saw the Arseno preformance, but heard the song was Heartbreak Hotel.

Hey Bootman..... when is your new site going to be ready? Why are you reading this if it's not ready as you have work to be done :)

as for Clintons sax, I think that he will always be remembered for what he gave his intern (if only I were to be that lucky) ha ha ha

Would this increase the value of the horn or would it decrease? :-)

Since no one awnsered this question about what song Clinton played at the inaguration, He played '"Your Mama Dont Dance and Your Daddy Dont Rock n Roll". If you search on the Internet, you can find a transcription of his solo. I dont know What type of sax he played there, but I do know he played a berg, and if you go to the berg larsen website ( www.berglarsen.com ) they show him playing the mpc

I suppose if I were selling that saxophone... I'd have a bit more proof than a grainy black & white picture of the president playing a saxophone.

For $10,000, no way, :P

Re sax on he played on Arsenio Hall, It looks like an unengraved Selmer tenor from this picture... A Mark VII perhaps?

I have very little in common with BC's politics and little admiration for some of his conduct, but, from what I have read, he was a serious sax player in high school (all-state) and college. Obviously, he has not kept his chops up, but he has had quite a few "distriactions" including two terms as president. Its a shame he can't chime in here.

If he got it new in '63, it would have a s/n somewhere in the 105-112 range. Happy to say it's not mine!

JD,

According to the 'Morgan' SN list which may or may not be accurate...your horn was made in early 1963. My Alto is a 107XXX...a little later in the year.
