Otto Link Tone Edge 7 opening.
$65, what do you guys think? New condition, plays pretty nice.

0.080" is a perfectly normal tenor opening, particularly for legit work. A 4 or 5 reed would work just fine, but a beginner might even start with a 2.5 or a 3 on such a mouthpiece. This is very close to a Selmer C*.

Link 7 tenor is a .100 opening.

I must be going crazy (no reply necessary)...I could swear that I posted this answer to a guy that was saying that a 0.08" facing was the smallest tip opening ever...

Saxaholic - Unless you are very lucky, you will want to have that Link 7 refaced or adjusted to remove stuffiness that is prevalent in current production Links. Expect to have $200 or so invested in this mouthpiece.

Not to be contrary, but I bought a Tone Edge 6 from someone on SOTW (sorry, I forget who), and had it balanced and opened up to .110 by J Clark. Total investment about $100, half for the piece, half for the work. I play it alongside my Guardala and Florida STM for a different sound, and don't find any difference in playability or reed friendliness.
Maybe I just got lucky.

If it plays well and sounds good, then that price isn't bad at all. A new one runs about $80 I believe, so that's a pretty decent savings.
And if you want to go the extra mile, have it refaced for a nominal fee. (around $50-100 for an HR depending on the refacer). You'd be surprised sometimes how a touchup can improve a piece's playability and flexibility. my $.02
