I just got my Legere 2.75 alto sax reed in today, my first synthetic reed. It really surprised me. It is very free blowing, but mabye because its a little soft to my liking. The sound got a little spread after a few minutes, but it was a focused sound. Again the spreading is probably because a thin reed. Overall very good reed. If not for persofmances, i would really reccomend this teachers. It plays awesome right off the bat no soaking. Awesome reed!

I'm quite surprised that you find this reed soft. I got a Legere 3 a few days ago (for my alto) and found it to be extremely hard.

The chart at legere.com said vandoren 3= legere 2.5 and since i was leander towards the harder side of vandoren 3s i got 2.75. That is interesting that people have such diffent tastes abuot these reeds. Why do people hate synthetic so much? Is it just becuase thats what every1 does, or do they honostly dont like them. Because from about 30 minutes playing on them i think they are wonderful. Not a reed to change the sax world, mabye in the future it will, but it still holds its own against those top brand can reeds.

I use Fibracell, which happens to be synthetic. I find them to be consistent, and they last long time. They also play well without wetting or sanding. As for Legere, I hated it. Legere 2.5 felt like Vandoren 3.5, and it had a dead sound. It won't "sing" for me.

Beowulfmk, i bet u play jazz or rock or something along those lines. From reading ppls post i have found that legere reeds are the best if not only classical synthetic reed. When i bought these reeds i wanted classical. Tell me if im right, when you played they had a dark, focused, warm tone to them. (My reed get a little spread sounding that may be because i havent played in a while and 1 stregnth to weak of legere) Legere wont have the buzz and brightness of fibercell. They are made not to be buzzy and bright. So, no u dont hate them, they just dont fit your style of play. If theyh played like poo, then u could hate them, but i know they dont.

Yes, I play Jazz and R&R a lot, but I also play classical music in regular basis. Some people may hate buzziness of Fibracell, but you can use more lip or use thicker strength to avoid excessive buzzing. I normally use 3 for Jazz, but when I need focused sound, I use 4.
Legere just didn't feel right in my mouth. It felt stiff, lifeless, and the tone it produced was too "round". It had absolutely no resonance. But, that's my opinion. You like legere. I prefer Fibracell.
Beowulfmk, so you are saying legere have no life in them. Like upbeat life in them. I agree they are really dark, and not meant for upbeat. They almost are suposed to be bland. I agree with duckmaster. I guess its just a personal taste. I think legere are awesome.
